Classic example of vibrantly colored DeSimone hand crafted pottery large tray in bright Sicilian color palette.
This
tray depicts a
mous

oed
soldier wearing a blue hat adorned in red and a uniform adorned with medals and gold epaulets.
The bottom of tray is
glazed
and signed Desimone 6414.
Trays measure approximately 4 1/2"” x 6 1/4". Excellent condition, no chips, cracks, crazing, scratches, discoloration or repairs.

The DeSimone line of pottery was created by Sicilian aristocrat turned artist, Giovanni DeSimone. He studied the works of artist Pablo Picasso extensively, whose influences are evident in the bright colors and simple lines of DeSimone’s ceramic art. All Giovanni De Simone pieces were individually hand painted and, as a result, no two pieces were ever the same. His pottery, which was painted in bright colours and featured decorative and stylized drawings of animals, figures and rural Italian life, is extremely collectible and highly sought after. His original, handmade ceramic designs and inspirations now live through the work of his daughters.
